Tenth Buckwheat Flower Festival opens
BHG - The tenth Tam Giac Mach (Buckwheat) Flower Festival opened in Dong Van District, in the northernmost province of Ha Giang, on the evening of November 9. The ceremony was attended by Nguyen Manh Dung, Acting Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Thao Hong Son, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council; along with members of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee and leaders of departments and branches.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Do Quoc Huong, Chairman of Dong Van District People's Committee, said in recent years, buckwheat flowers have become a highlight attracting large numbers of tourists to Dong Van. The 10th Buckwheat Flower Festival is an important cultural and tourism event to honour the beauty of this typical flower of the Stone Plateau. After nine festival seasons with its own unique features, this year's festival, with the theme “The land of flowers of love”, will feature many rich and diverse activities in addition to new tourism products such as demonstrations of traditional linen weaving crafts, Mong flute-making stages, a check-in area at the welcome gate, a stone fence, and the Holy Well in the Old Quarter area. All promised to bring visitors interesting experiences amidst the immense rocky mountains.

The opening ceremony closed with an art programme with the theme “The land of flowers of love”. The art programme consisted of two parts: Colours of the Plateau, and Returning to the Heritage Land. Delegates and visitors enjoyed unique art performances imbued with the traditional cultural values of the ethnic groups on the Dong Van Stone Plateau such as the songs “From the legend”, “Returning to Ha Giang” and “Dong Van flowers”, and a unique Mong dance. Notably, the “Returning to the Heritage Land” section also featured a performance of ethnic costumes by 38 girls from communes and towns in the district. Visitors also had a chance to watch the reenactment of the Ancestor Worship Ceremony and the Forest God Worship Ceremony, which are national intangible heritages of the district.
