The two sides discussed support for the recovery and development of the tourism industry after the circulation of storm No. 3.
From June to September 2024, the whole province suffered severe damage due to widespread heavy rains, causing flash floods, landslides, and inundation. Damaged infrastructure that had not been repaired or restored continued to be affected by the circulation of storm No. 3 at a more severe level.
The estimated damage caused by natural disasters up to this point is about 1.518 trillion VND. After the natural disasters, the number of tourists from September to early October decreased by 5.4% compared to the same period in 2023.
Speaking at the meeting, the Standing Vice Chairman of Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee, Hoang Gia Long, emphasised that tourism is a key economic sector. Therefore, the province focuses on developing in a green, clean and sustainable direction.
The province has recently paid attention to and had mechanisms and policies to promote and attract investment in this field.
To support the recovery and development of the tourism industry, the province hopes that Helvetas Vietnam will soon deploy components of the 2023 – 2027 project “Swiss Tourism for Sustainable Development in Vietnam” for Ha Giang.
At the same time, the province also hopes that Helvetas Vietnam will expand the project's support areas, especially high-quality tourist areas, to develop community tourism villages, as well as pay special attention to environmental protection.
In addition, the province also proposed that the Helvetas Organization continue to research and advise the province to build a sustainable tourism destination management model, participate in tourism promotion and advertising programmes abroad, and support the implementation of the Project to develop and position the Ha Giang tourism brand.
Through the province's recommendations and proposals, the representative of Helvetas Vietnam committed to promptly completing support procedures so that the 2023 – 2027 project “Swiss Tourism for Sustainable Development in Vietnam” for Ha Giang can be implemented synchronously in Ha Giang Province.
The project's activities are also adjusted according to the actual situation and demands of the province based on being consistent with the set goals, aiming to restore and sustainably develop the tourism industry after the storm and in the following years.
