Landslide-hit National Highway No.2 in Ha Giang opens to traffic
BHG - The landslide-hit section at Km49+500 on National Highway No.2 was opened to traffic at 13:00 on October 2 after more than three days of construction. The highway runs through Nam Buong Village in Viet Vinh Commune, Bac Quang District, Ha Giang Province.
Vehicles have resumed traffic through Km49+500 section. |
This achievement was the result of strong direction from the General Department of Roads, the provincial People’s Committee, and the active participation of forces such as the traffic police, traffic inspectorate, and the Road Joint Stock Company 232.
With over 20,000 cubic meters of landslide material stretching approximately 300 meters, the incident had caused severe traffic disruptions for several days. The forces urgently leveled the ground, dug drainage ditches, and ensured the technical safety of the slope area. At 11am on October 2, the road was basically cleared, but it wasn’t until 1pm that the forces began to operate one-way traffic to ensure the safety for vehicles passing through.
The reopening of the road was warmly welcomed by residents, especially drivers whose vehicles had been stuck for several days. Hoang Van Viet, a resident from Yen Bai Province who was stranded for four days in Tan Quang Commune, expressed his relief at being able to continue his journey and thanked the authorities and the people of Ha Giang for their support during the past days.
During the four days of blockage, authorities organised traffic diversions to ensure safety for people and vehicles by guiding them to use alternative routes. Traffic police and related units continue to closely monitor the landslide area to ensure safety and be ready to respond to any unexpected situations.
