Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development works with Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee

BHG - Nguyen Quoc Tri, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, held a working session with the Standing Committee of the Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee on April 28 regarding the situation of agricultural production and forest fire prevention and fighting in the province.

The event was attended by Tran Duc Quy, member of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

At the meeting, leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial Forest Protection Department reported an overview of the province's agricultural production situation in the first four months of the year as well as fire prevention work and the forest fire that occurred on April 26.

Accordingly, in the dry season of 2023 - 2024, the province suffered seven forest fires in the districts of Meo Vac, Yen Minh, Xin Man, and Vi Xuyen. The total burned area measured 3.24 hectares.

For the forest fire on April 26, it was determined that the fire started at about 2:30 am. The fire was controlled and extinguished by 1:00 pm on April 27. The fire was located in Sub-zone 121A, in the Tay Con Linh special-use forest. An estimated area of about 15 hectares was burned. In particular, the fire caused the deaths of two forest rangers and left one person injured.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Quoc Tri expressed his sympathy for forest damage and human loss in the forest protection and development work of Ha Giang recently, especially with the forest fire that occurred on April 26.

At the same time, he also expressed his hope that through the above incident, the province will organise learning experiences and lessons in fire prevention and fighting work; human life safety; forest status maps; and meteorological and hydrological forecasts.

After the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Tri along with Leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial Labour Federation visited and encouraged the families of forest rangers who died and were injured while fighting the Tay Con Linh forest fire.
