Motivation for Ban May people to settle down

15:13, 30/07/2024

BHG - With the motto “State support, people’s proactivity, community’s assistance”, many houses have been repaired and built for people in remote, border, and disadvantaged areas of Hoang Su Phi District in recent times, helping people feel secure in working, thus promoting the economy and gradually reducing poverty.

Ban May Commune has been allocated over 3 billion VND in the 2021-2025 period to build and repair 87 houses for poor and near-poor households. The funds came from the National Target Programme for Sustainable Poverty Reduction as well as the Programme for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas. In 2024 alone, over 30 houses were repaired or built under these programmes and are being completed.

In September 2023, Sai Chung Tang in Ta Chai Village was provided with 44 million VND to build a new house. After four months of construction, the Tang’s family’s home was completed and put into use in early 2024. Tang said: “My father and mother are old while my children are still young. My wife and I are the main labourers in the family, and because of difficult circumstances, we must work far from home. The old house had a leaky roof and rotten wooden pillars, so every time there was rain or storms, I was very worried, and didn’t feel secure to work. Thanks to the financial support, I borrowed more from my relatives and used my savings to build a solid house. Now I feel more reassured when working far from home.”

In 2024, Lu Sao Tien’s family in Ta Chai Village also received financial support to build a house. The joy of settling down was evident on Tien’s face as he himself carried each bucket of mortar and laid each brick for his new house. Currently, with the labour assistance from relatives and neighbours, the solid house of Tien’s family is about to be completed with the three criteria of hardness (hard foundation, hard frame — walls, hard roof).

With many flexible solutions, Ban May Commune aims to continue to effectively implement social security policies in the coming years, focusing on eliminating temporary houses and dilapidated houses for poor households. Each newly completed house means that a poor or near-poor household will have a stable place to live, thereby feeling secure in working to improve their lives and successfully escape from poverty.
