Steering Committee meets for project on supporting economic empowerment for women in tea production chain

BHG - On the morning of November 21, the Steering Committee for the Project on supporting economic empowerment for women in the tea production chain (AWEEV) held a meeting to share the results achieved after three years of project operation in Quang Binh District (Ha Giang).

The meeting saw the presence of Shawna Godbold, Deputy Director, Southeast Asia Department II, Global Affairs Canada; Francesca Bellone, Senior Development Officer, Embassy of Canada in Vietnam and Country Director of CARE in Vietnam.

From the 2021 - 2024 period, with the support of Global Affairs Canada and the Government of Canada through CARE International in Vietnam, the AWEEV Project was implemented in six communes and towns of Quang Binh District, including Tan Bac, Tan Trinh, Yen Thanh, Xuan Minh, Tien Nguyen and Yen Binh Town. The project has a total committed aid capital value of over 23 billion VND. The project has disbursed more than 19.9 billion VND, reaching a rate of 85.5%. The project's activities are being implemented on schedule, meeting the requirements according to the document approved by the Provincial People's Committee and the sponsor.

In particular, in 2024, due to severe floods and landslides occurring in the province, the project always strives to provide emergency support to the locality to restore housing, production, and clean water for the people.

Speaking at the meeting, the representative of the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam highly appreciated the results of the AWEEV Project's activities over the past three years. These achievements have greatly contributed to the socio-economic development of the locality, having a profound impact on the practice of gender equality. The Government of Canada is committed to supporting businesses, promoting production and business activities led by women in the economy, and creating an important driving force for development.
