According to Phan Dang Dong, Director of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, over the past nearly five years, the department has advised the Provincial People's Committee on the development of 10 programmes and projects for scientific and technological development, ensuring their applicability and effectiveness. A total of 66 scientific and technological tasks within the provincial programmes have been approved, 32 of which have been completed. Additionally, the department has advised on commissioning and implementing 9 tasks under national-level scientific and technological programmes, with two tasks already being accepted at the local level.
The funding for scientific and technological activities has supported the implementation of numerous projects that apply science into agriculture, technology, and medicine. As a result, 17 technical processes have been researched and applied in the production of agricultural, forestry, and medicinal products, and 68 models of scientific and technological applications have been launched, contributing to improving the income and living standards of local people while promoting the 5 key programmes outlined in the Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress.
In the recent years, 733 individuals have been trained and introduced to advances in science and technology. Additionally, nearly 100 provincial officials have participated in scientific research, enhancing their analytical capacity and policy planning. The scientific and technological tasks have focused on increasing the value of the province’s key products, such as Shan Tuyet tea, medicinal herbs, Yellow cows, tourism, and agricultural product processing. Some notable projects include: "Research on the conservation and sustainable development of ancient Shan Tuyet tea", "Application of breeding technology for cows in the rocky highlands", "Production of Cordyceps mushrooms on brown rice substrate", and "Building an intelligent data management system for Ha Giang Province".
As of the end of 2024, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology has also achieved significant results in intellectual property, with six tasks completed and three certificates issued for products, namely Ngoc Duong’s ‘Gu’ rice cakes (a specialty of square glutinous rice cake in the locality), Yen Minh cinnamon, and Dong Van Khau Mang rice. These products have increased in value by 10-20%, with the rice cakes' price rising from 5,000-7,000 to 15,000-20,000 VND per piece, and they are now being exported to Taiwan (China). This has contributed to enhancing the brand, competitiveness and local products as well as improving people's income.
These achievements demonstrate the efforts to implement the resolution of the Provincial Party Congress in the field of science and technology, helping to boost socio-economic development and transform Ha Giang into a more innovative and prosperous region.
