Tu San Canyon - The most majestic wonder amidst the karst plateau
Tu San Canyon, Vietnam’s deepest and most unique natural rock formation, is also the deepest in Southeast Asia. It stretches between two towering cliffs along the Nho Que River, nestled within the Ma Pi Leng Pass, and runs northwest to southeast between Dong Van and Meo Vac communes.

Tu San Canyon was formed millions of years ago, when the Dong Van Karst Plateau lay beneath the sea. Geological transformations and continental drift lifted the plateau more than 2,000 meters above sea level. As the waters receded, the dramatic Tu San Canyon was carved into the landscape.
Tu San Canyon’s defining feature is its sheer vertical cliffs, rising to 1,500 meters, stretching 1.7 kilometers in length, and plunging nearly 1,000 meters deep. At the foot of the rocky mountain, due to long-term water flow, there are caves and stalactites in many shapes, depending on each person's imagination.
The area is home to a troop of about 30 to 40 assam macaques, which live in rock crevices or dense thickets. Their diet mainly consists of fruits, grains, and small invertebrates, though they occasionally feed on beetles, larvae, lizards, and other small creatures.
Activities such as boating on the Nho Que River and navigating through Tu San Canyon in small vessels like kayaks or stand-up paddleboards have become popular experiences among visitors.
Tu San Canyon is not only a destination but also a journey into the heart of nature. Here, you can listen to stories etched in stone, feel the insignificance of humankind amid majestic landscapes, and take part in unforgettable experiences.
