At a recent communications event titled “Enhancing male participation in the prevention of domestic violence”, organised by the Women’s Union of Hoang Su Phi District in the Nam Son cluster of communes, many local men participated enthusiastically, reflecting a growing awareness of their role in building family happiness. Trieu Ta Pu, a resident of Ho Thau Commune, shared that through communications, he and many others had changed their mindsets, overcome gender stereotypes, taken a more active role in domestic responsibilities, refrained from domestic violence, and supported women’s participation in social activities, thus enhancing family wellbeing.
According to Hoang Thi Huong, Chairwoman of the Hoang Su Phi District Women’s Union, local union branches have launched various initiatives to support women’s holistic development, maintaining clubs such as “Building happy families” and “Women and the law”. In addition, legal aid and awareness-raising on women’s rights and domestic violence prevention have been widely promoted through market-day campaigns, performance-based activities, and competitions. These efforts have helped eliminate outdated prejudices and advance the creation of equal and progressive family environments.
In 2024 alone, communication efforts were expanded significantly, with more than 1,000 mobile dissemination sessions, 4,000 radio broadcasts, and 3,220 integrated sessions during community meetings, reaching over 300,000 people. Political and social organisations such as the Youth Union, the Women’s Union, and the Farmers’ Union have also embraced information technology, effectively spreading messages via social media platforms such as Zalo and Facebook.
Alongside communication campaigns, many domestic violence prevention models have been widely implemented. The province now has 872 community-based trusted addresses, 258 support facilities for victims of violence, one club assisting women at risk of forced marriage to foreigners, and one public social support centre providing aid to victims of human trafficking and gender-based violence.
To meet the demands of the current context, sectors and localities continue to promote family values, replicate exemplary cultural family models, and focus on moral education, gender equality, child protection, and the prevention of child and consanguineous marriages. The “All people unite to build a cultural life” movement has also been given due attention, contributing to a comprehensive and practical transformation in family affairs.
