Quan Ba student wins gold medal in ‘STEAM for Girls’ competition

BHG - The ‘STEAM for Girls – Green STEAM for Girls 2024’ competition was recently held in Ho Chi Minh City by the Vietnam National Institute of Educational Sciences (VNIES) in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Victoria School.

The competition attracted nearly 200 schoolgirls in the preliminary round, around 69 of whom were selected to enter the final round.

The entrants, aged between 13 and 15 years old, and their instructors came from 18 provinces and cities across the country, along with representatives from foreign countries including Thailand, Malaysia, and Laos.

They competed in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

In the final round, Nguyen Phuong Anh, a student of Tam Son Secondary School, Tam Son Town, Quan Ba District, Ha Giang Province, won the gold medal for the project on biomass energy in mountainous areas.

The project has affirmed its advantages in terms of creativity and application in reach life by showing how to utilise regenerating natural materials such as plants, straw, bagasse or waste, which is not harmful to the environment, to produce electricity, gasoline and oil for use as fuel.

The ‘STEAM for Girls’ competition aimed to enhance opportunities for Vietnamese and international students to meet and share knowledge, culture, and history. It was also designed as a forum and venue to connect students, helping them access the STEAM education model, thus creating a space for learning and experience, and layingthe foundation for them to create sustainable values ​​and gain more confidence to move forward in the future.
