New bridges bring joy to local residents

16:20, 16/09/2024

BHG - Since 2021, Vi Xuyen District has mobilised different financial sources to construct 35 new bridges and upgrade another 15, many of which have provided local residents with new connectivity opportunities.

As one of the district’s most disadvantaged communes, Cao Bo has many streams that cut off the routes to its villages. During the rainy season, the water levels rise and many temporary bridges are swept away, isolating the villages.

Under the motto that both the state and people join hands, in addition to village roads, Cao Bo also called for investment to build a series of bridges, not only connecting the villages with each other but also the commune with other regions.

Last May, 200 households in Hat Village, Viet Lam Commune, joyfully attended a ceremony to inaugurate Phuc Long Bridge crossing Vat Stream and linking Na Khun Hamlet and Na Thia Hamlet.

Construction began in August 2023 and the bridge was completed in April 2024. The bridge is 3.5 metres wide and 54 metres long and can withstand a total weight of 10 tonnes. The construction costs were mobilised from social sources, while local residents donated over 4,100 square metres of land and contributed their labour to the construction work.

Among the 35 new bridges and 15 renovated bridges since 2021, 11 are in Linh Ho Commune, 9 in Thuong Son Commune, 7 in Cao Bo Commune, and 3 in Viet Lam Commune. Such bridges are the realisation Vi Xuyen District’s 24th Party Congress’s resolution on improving rural transport infrastructure.

Vi Xuyen District Party Secretary Do Anh Tuan stressed that the bridges in the district were built with the determination and joint efforts of the authorities, people and donors, and are significant to the local socio-economic development. Vi Xuyen District thanks the support of enterprises, organisations and individuals and hopes that they will continue to accompany the district in building more bridges.
