Ensuring construction materials for the Tuyen Quang – Ha Giang expressway

The Tuyen Quang – Ha Giang expressway is a key infrastructure project in the northern mountainous region, carrying strategic significance in removing transport bottlenecks, boosting socio-economic development, and ensuring national defense and security. To complete the project on schedule, the province is implementing multiple solutions to secure sufficient construction materials.

According to the plan, Phase 1 of the expressway will stretch over 104 km with a total investment of nearly VND14 trillion. For the section running through Tuyen Quang, demand for soil to build the roadbed exceeds 5.2 million m³, of which about 2.39 million m³ must be sourced externally due to quality issues. To date, about 595,000 m³ has been supplied, including 400,000 m³ already used for construction. However, the project still lacks about 0.35 million m³ of stone. For sand, demand is around 121,000 m³, which can be fully met by four identified quarries with reserves of nearly 1 million m³.

For the section in Ha Giang, soil demand is similarly about 5.2 million m³; stone demand is 685,605 m³, with a shortfall of about 90,605 m³. Meanwhile, four sand quarries with reserves of over 943,000 m³ have been identified, basically meeting construction needs.

Currently, more than 114 construction sites, 1,058 pieces of machinery, and thousands of workers are mobilized, working around the clock. By mid-2025, construction value reached about VND1.923 trillion out of VND4.79 trillion. However, prolonged heavy rains have posed significant challenges, particularly for earthworks, bridges, and culverts.

To address these issues, provincial leaders have accelerated approvals for mining licenses, granted exploitation rights, and streamlined material transportation. The People’s Committee has approved four additional soil mines outside the project scope, three extraction sites for later phases, and authorized capacity increases at six stone mines to meet demand.

Ensuring adequate construction materials not only prevents project disruptions but also shortens timelines and reduces costs. With strong direction from the Government, coordination from local authorities, and the high responsibility of contractors, the Tuyen Quang – Ha Giang Expressway is steadily moving toward completion.
