Infrastructure at the Thanh Thuy International Border Gate area has received attention and investment. |
Tuyen Quang has a border of more than 277 km adjoining Yunnan Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (China), with numerous border gates and crossings. In recent years, border trade has achieved positive results, with import-export turnover in 2025 estimated at over USD 500 million, contributing to production, goods consumption, and service development. However, border trade activities have yet to match the province’s potential, with infrastructure still lacking synchronization, export goods of low value, and heavy dependence on the Chinese market.
In the coming time, Tuyen Quang aims to develop Thanh Thuy Border Gate Economic Zone into a modern, synchronized hub of trade, services, and logistics in the region; expand and upgrade border gates; diversify export-import goods; strengthen deep processing; and build brands for key agroforestry products. The completion of the Tuyen Quang – Ha Giang Expressway connecting to Thanh Thuy Border Gate is expected to create major competitive advantages, attracting investment in logistics, finance, and cross-border e-commerce services.
Experts believe that Tuyen Quang has room to make breakthroughs thanks to opportunities for new and upgraded border gates and international transport routes. The Ministry of Industry and Trade recommends that the province develop a long-term plan, focus on official export channels, link trade with tourism and OCOP products, and strongly mobilize social resources.
With its existing potential and strategic orientation, Tuyen Quang’s border trade economy is expected to become an important driving force for development, contributing to the province’s growth targets in the new period.
