Ha Giang unblocks the flow of border trade
BHG - Ha Giang has a border of more than 277 km, bordering the two provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi (China), owning the Thanh Thuy - Thien Bao International Border Gate, two pairs of bilateral border gates Xin Man - Du Long and Sam Pun - Tian Peng, along with many openings and border markets. With strengths in minerals, agricultural and forestry products, medicinal herbs and ecological resources, Ha Giang has the potential to develop border trade and cross-border supply chains in agricultural processing, mineral export and logistics. However, this potential has not been effectively exploited.

The province has actively promoted cooperation with Wenshan City (China), maintained information exchange, and participated in international fairs and major conferences such as the Mekong - Lancang Economic Region Provincial Governors’ Conference, creating favourable conditions to promote trade. Recently, at the Import-Export Business Connection Conference between the two sides with more than 70 businesses attending, the two sides agreed on increasing import-export revenue to 500 million USD in 2025, aiming for sustainable growth in 2026-2030. At the conference, nine Ha Giang businesses signed contracts and memorandums of understanding with Chinese partners, focusing on agriculture, processing and trade services - opening up prospects for building a stable and effective supply chain. In March, import-export activities were bustling again at border gates. The Provincial Economic Zone Management Board coordinated with the Department of Trade of Chau Van Son to organise a customs clearance ceremony at the Sam Pun - Dien Bong Border Gate. In the first quarter of 2025, the total import-export turnover reached 73.979 million USD, an increase of 45.22% over the same period. Exports reached 43.969 million USD and imports reached 29.829 million USD - an increase of more than 306%.
However, the Director of the Department of Industry and Trade Trieu Tai Phong said that enterprises in the province have not effectively connected with the Chinese market and OCOP products have not ensured export output. The Department will coordinate more closely with the Department of Trade of Wenshan City to remove difficulties, support enterprises of both sides to connect, share markets, invest in large-scale production and promote import and export.
