42 hydropower plants operating in Ha Giang
BHG - As of February 2025, the province has 42 hydropower plants in operation with a total capacity of 769 MW, including 8 medium-sized hydropower plants with a total capacity of 457 MW and 34 small hydropower plants with a total capacity of 312 MW.
The hydropower plants in operation are basically stable, meeting the requirements of the provincial and national power systems, ensuring safe operation of reservoir dams. In the 2021-2024 period, the total electricity output of the plants reached 11,413 billion kWh, with commercial electricity growth reaching 10.5%.
In addition to the operating plants, the province currently has 12 hydropower plants under construction with a total installed capacity of 131.4 MW, six of which are expected to complete commercial power generation in 2025.

In addition, there are 34 other hydropower projects that have been approved and are in the process of implementing legal procedures according to regulations.
In addition to hydropower, the province is also researching the expansion of renewable energy sources such as rooftop solar power and wind power, in order to diversify supply sources and meet the increasing demand for electricity in the future.
Based on the Politburo’s Resolution 55, dated February 11, 2020, on the orientation of Vietnam's National Energy Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045, the province continues to coordinate with central ministries and branches to adjust the power development plan to ensure the development of the energy sector in line with local potential and the green energy transition trend, thereby not only contributing to promoting economic growth but also creating jobs for local workers and ensuring regional energy security.
