BHG - In the early days of Spring, farmers in Quang Binh District are urgently entering a new production season, following the success of the winter crop. The bustling working atmosphere in the fields heralds a bountiful spring crop.

At the beginning of the year, communes and towns have proactively implemented production plans, ensuring seasonal schedules and appropriate crop structures. Functional agencies are actively providing guidance on cultivation techniques and pest control to improve crop yields.

After Lunar New Year Festival 2025, people are busy in the fields sowing and planting rice, corn, peanuts, and various other crops.

In specialised rice-growing areas such as Vi Thuong, Bang Lang, Xuan Giang, and Tien Yen, the sowing and planting progress has been completed for over 80% of the total area.

In addition to high-quality commercial rice varieties, some communes are experimenting with new rice varieties such as DB18, SYN8, SYN18, and SYN12. If good results are achieved, these varieties will be expanded, enhancing the value of rice production and contributing to increased income for the people.

In the fields of Ha Village and Hạ Thanh Village (Bang Lang Commune), people are busy with harvesting potatoes. The farmer-business coordination model helps farmers feel secure in production, as businesses lease land and pay directly for labour.

With 13 hectares of potatoes, the yield reaches 20 tonnes/ha, and the products are mainly distributed to processing plants in Vinh Phúc and wholesale markets at prices ranging from 8,000 VND to 13,000 VND/kg.

Nguyen Thi Chanh from Ha Thanh Village, shared that despite the cold weather, her family is still working to prepare the land for sowing and planting rice, hoping for a bountiful spring crop this year.

According to Nguyen Van Hung, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Office of Quang Binh District, the successful winter crop is the motivation to accelerate the progress of the spring crop.

The district plans to sow and plant 1,838 hectares of rice, 1,883 hectares of corn, 2,113 hectares of peanuts, and various vegetable crops. To date, the progress of rice sowing and planting has reached 80%, corn planting 75%, and peanut planting 90%.

Localities are proactively engaged in production, the agricultural sector closely monitors and promotes progress, along with policies to support seeds and fertilisers, contributing to an urgent working atmosphere.

The district also focuses on irrigation and disease prevention on crops, determined to ensure food security and improve people's lives.

Spring not only marks the beginning of a new year but is also a season for sowing hope, praying for favourable weather and good harvests, and contributing to completing the agricultural sector’s goals for 2025.
