10:21, 06/02/2025

BHG - Developing an agriculture sector characterised by high-quality commodity products along value chains is one of Ha Giang Province’s three strategic breakthrough areas.

Under the leadership of authorities at all levels, alongside the support of enterprises and citizens, the province’s agriculture not only provides a firm foundation for the economy but also makes a significant contribution to local socio-economic development.

The province has issued numerous support policies for agricultural development, such as a resolution on household garden economy development, livelihood creation, and sustainable poverty reduction for the 2021-2025 period; and another resolution on supporting sustainable household garden economy and Sanh orange development. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has implemented an action programme to promote agriculture along value chains.

Despite facing unfavourable weather conditions, the province’s agriculture has achieved numerous positive results. Production material zones continue to be developed, and scientific and technological advances are being applied to enhance product quality.

Many agricultural products have established brands and geographical indications, including Shan Tuyet tea, Bac Ha honey, Sanh oranges, seedless persimmons, Gia Dui rice, cardamom, and Ha Giang yellow cattle.

Currently, the province has 510 agricultural cooperatives and 1,250 cooperative groups, with 8,613 members; 46 value chain production projects involving enterprises and cooperatives; and 4 scientific research topics recognised and applied in production.

The agricultural sector continues to affirm its role as an economic pillar. The province currently has 229 OCOP products certified as three-star, 39 four-star products, and two five-star products.

Ha Giang’s Shan Tuyet tea won gold at the “Teas of the World” contest, while many of its products have entered the VinMart supermarket chain, and 4 specialities are ranked in the top 100 Vietnamese speciality dishes and gifts. The OCOP programme has created momentum for rural economic development, increasing incomes and effectively supporting the programme to build new rural areas.

Comprehensive, sustainable agricultural development is being implemented based on regional advantages. In 2024, Ha Giang expanded the export of its agricultural produce through official channels, including the export of pickled turnips, pickled ginger and pickled scallions to Japan. The agricultural sector will continue to link production, build brands, and support processing to meet VietGap, organic, ISO, and HACCP standards.

Developing agriculture along value chains is a sustainable approach that enhances the position of Ha Giang’s agricultural products, improves citizens’ living standards, stimulates local economy, and expands export opportunities.
