Sweet and fragrant custard apples during harvest season

BHG - As many as 30 hectares of custard apples in the residential areas No.6, 7, 8 and 9 in Quang Trung Ward (Ha Giang City) are entering the harvest season. This year, the custard apple crop has been abundant with good quality, beautiful appearance, and stable prices ranging from 50,000 to 90,000 VND per kilogramme, depending on the type. The estimated yield is around 100 tonnes. The harvest season extends from July to November, bringing joy to farmers with increased income. Quang Trung rocky mountain custard apples have become a well-received market brand.

The entire Quang Trung Ward has 35 hectares of custard apples, concentrated in residential areas No.6, 7, 8, and 9, with 30 hectares yielding fruits. Custard apples have become a crop of high economic value for residents.

The Custard Apple Growers Association of Quang Trung Ward was established in 2017 and now has 62 members. The association’s members are united and sharing experiences in planting and caring for custard apples, helping growers increase their income.

The custard apples that are cared for and pruned help extend the harvest season and produce big, high-quality fruits.

Thanks to applying scientific techniques in planting, care and establishing model custard apple gardens, Mac Duc Quy’s garden in residential area No.8 has extended its harvest period to nearly three months this year. This prevents the fruits from ripening all at once and being sold at lower prices, helping his family maintain a stable income.

This year's custard apple crop, with over 1,000 trees for a prolonged harvest, has provided Mac Duc Quy’s family with an income of over 300 million VND.

This year's abundant crop has an estimated yield of about 100 tonnes, with an average selling price of 50,000 - 60,000 VND per kilogramme. The total revenue is estimated to reach nearly 6 billion VND, achieving over 120% compared to 2023.

Tran Thi Huong (residential area No.8) joyfully shared: "This is the first year my garden has yielded a harvest. The custard apples are abundant, well-priced, and of good appearance, bringing my family a total income of over 100 million VND”.

The residents sort the custard apples before selling. The big and evenly-sized fruits are sold for 90,000 - 100,000 VND per kilogramme. Smaller fruits are sold at gradually decreasing prices.

The custard apples are carefully wrapped in nets to ensure they are not damaged during transportation.

The biggest and highest-quality custard apples are sold for 80,000 - 90,000 VND per kilogramme.

The big, well-formed, high-quality custard apples are sold at stable prices.
