BHG - As usual, every Sunday morning, in the central area of Meo Vac Town (Meo Vac), a cow market takes place. At every market session, people bring hundreds of cows to the market to exchange, buy and sell, creating a bustling and vibrant atmosphere, attracting numerous people, traders and tourists, to buy, sell and visit.

Right from the early morning, there were several people bringing cows to the market to sell. The bustling atmosphere increases as people and traders continue to flock to the market. Taking a cow to the market to sell, Mr Ly Mi So, Ta Lung Commune shared: “Currently, my family is raising five breeding cows. Every time a calf is born, I focus on caring for and nurturing them so they can grow quickly and healthily. After the cow is 1-2 years old, I take the cow to the market to sell. From the money earned selling cows, I continue to reinvest in production and take care of my children's education.”

As one of the familiar traders at Meo Vac cow market, Mr Le Hong Quang from Tuyen Quang Province said: “I often buy cows at Meo Vac cow market to supply wholesale markets and restaurants downstream. The Meo Vac cow breed has a fragrant and delicious meat quality, so it is favoured by many consumers. Every market day I usually buy 3-5 cows.”

Thanks to the synchronous implementation of many solutions, the total herd of cows in Meo Vac District has continuously increased over the years. From raising cows, many households have escaped poverty and become well-off. The district also considered this one of the occupations suitable to the farming practices of highland people, that need attention for investment and development. To facilitate people having a place to exchange, buy and sell cows, many years ago, Meo Vac District reserved more than 1,300 m2 of land in the centre of Meo Vac Town, to build a cow market. On average, each cow market session has 200 - 300 cows brought for sale by people. In addition to traders in the district, the market also attracts many traders from downstream provinces to buy cows, such as Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc.

Markets are organised not only as a place to buy, sell, and exchange goods, promoting trade and economic development but also as a place for people to exchange and share business experiences and life stories. After each market, people return to their daily lives, actively increasing production, and raising cows and pigs, to have a more prosperous and happy life.
