Efforts exerted to make Dong Van Stone Plateau a national tourist area
BHG - Ha Giang Province has focused on investment to complete infrastructure, develop unique tourism products, enhance promotion of its image, and gradually perfect the criteria for Dong Van Stone Plateau to become a national tourist area.
Recognised as a Global Geopark since 2010 and approved by the Prime Minister for the Master Plan on the development of national tourist areas to 2025, with a vision to 2030, the province has so far implemented plans, solutions, and action programmes to implement the prescribed criteria. In particular, infrastructure is one of the key factors to improve the quality of experience for visitors.

The intra-provincial transportation system and tourist attractions on the Stone Plateau have been invested in and upgraded. The province has installed 33 public Wi-Fi points and a QRCode system to provide information to visitors at 20 tourist areas and spots; deployed the Tourism Information Portal and Digital Map; installed 39 large-scale billboards, 43 heritage information boards and 88 directional boards to help visitors easily explore each destination.
In addition, the development of unique and highly competitive tourism products has been effectively exploited with community cultural tourism villages, 4 main tourism routes and 59 heritage sites, a series of festivals and traditional craft villages. Tourism promotion has been innovated with the strong application of digital technology. Major events such as the Buckwheat Flower Festival, the Mong Panpipe Festival, and the international marathon have all left a deep impression on visitors.
Many development targets for the Dong Van Karst Plateau National Tourist Area have been achieved and exceeded. In 2024, the total number of tourists to the province reached over 3.2 million, with the Geopark area estimated to account for 70% of the total number of visitors. The total revenue from tourists was estimated at over 8.1 trillion VND, of which the Geopark area was estimated to contribute over 60%.
Efforts to implement the planning of the Dong Van Karst Plateau National Tourist Area are bringing about clear changes in the socio-economic situation, affirming the land's unique cultural and natural values.
