Forest worship ceremony of the Co Lao people in Sinh Lung Commune recognised as national intangible cultural heritage
BHG - On October 11, the People's Committee of Dong Van District, Ha Giang Province, staged a forest worship ceremony and announced the decision to recognise the forest worship ceremony of the Co Lao ethnic people in Sinh Lung Commune, Dong Van District,as a national intangible cultural heritage.
Leaders of the Ha Giang Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the leaders of Dong Van District presented flowers to congratulate the authorities and people of Sinh Lung Commune on having their forest worshipping ceremony recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage. |
The event was attended by leaders of the Ha Giang Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The forest worship ceremony is a long-standing social and religious custom passed down among generations of the Co Lao ethnic people. The traditional ritual has an important meaning in connecting the community, contributing to educating people to live in harmony with the natural environment, and protecting forests and water resources.
In recent years, the Party Committees and authorities of Sinh Lung Commune and Dong Van District have popularised the preservation of the traditional culture of the Co Lao ethnic group in many diverse ways by integratingthe issue into meetings and activities of local villages.
They have also created favourable conditions for the Co Lao ethnic community to raise awareness of preserving and promoting their cultural values and the forest worship ceremony. The traditional culture of the Co Lao ethnic group has been included in teaching programmes at schools in the commune.
At the ceremony, the leaders of the Ha Giang Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism’scertificate honouring the forest worship ceremony of the Co Lao ethnic people in Sinh Lung Commune, Dong Van District as a national intangible cultural heritage to the leaders and people of Sinh Lung Commune.
