July is a time when millions of grateful hearts turn toward the heroic martyrs who laid down their lives for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. In the sacred land at the northernmost tip of the country, the Vi Xuyen National Martyrs' Cemetery stands solemnly amidst the mountains and forests, like an epic carved in stone.
BHG - Nestled at the foot of the majestic Rong Mountain, about one kilometre from the Lung Cu National Flag Tower, Lo Lo Chai Village appears like a peaceful painting amid the stone plateau. This is the shared homeland of the Lo Lo and Mong ethnic minority communities, who have lived here for generations. The culture of the Lo Lo people is vividly expressed through traditional patterns such as fish and dragons, reflecting a life constantly shadowed by water scarcity. The wish for “dragons to spout water” is not only a simple wish but also a heartfelt message conveyed in every pattern and every house in this remote northernmost land of the country.
BHG - The Meo Vac Market is held every Sunday morning and is considered the largest in the Dong Van Stone Plateau. Not counting the small traders who specialise in “running the market”, the end of the year is often when people from all over come to sell. Items regularly made by locals and brought to the market to sell, such as goats, piglets, vegetables, dried bamboo shoots, fresh ginger, rice, dong leaves or fragrant corn wine cans, are also sold more than usual.
In the 2025 winter-spring crop, Tuyen Quang province aims to cultivate around 48,000 hectares of rice, with a projected average yield of over 60 quintals per hectare. At present, farmers are busy preparing the soil and transplanting rice seedlings, creating a bustling atmosphere.
Amid the rugged cat-ear limestone peaks of Dong Van and Meo Vac, the local ethnic communities continue to preserve pho chua (sour pho) as a cherished culinary tradition and a distinctive flavor of the rocky highlands.
